Cover.com is a platform designed to connect you with insurance providers; we are not an insurance carrier or a licensed agent. We do not charge users a fee for submitting inquiries. Instead, we receive compensation from the insurance companies, agents, and third-party service providers (“Insurance Services”) that we partner with to provide you with coverage options.

2. Information Categories We Collect

We collect "Personal Information"—data that identifies or relates to you—depending on how you use our Services:

  • Identifiers: Name, date of birth, Social Security Number, driver’s license number, and login credentials.

Messaging Consent: Your consent to receive SMS, MMS, or RCS messages from Cover.com is specific to Cover.com. We do not sell, transfer, assign, or share your SMS, MMS, or RCS messaging consent with third parties or marketing partners for purposes of allowing those parties to send you their own marketing messages.

The sharing of Personal Information necessary to fulfill an insurance inquiry is separate from your optional consent to receive SMS, MMS, or RCS marketing messages from Cover.com.

Consumer Report Notice: By submitting an inquiry, you grant express consent for our partners to obtain consumer reports (including credit-based insurance scores) to determine eligibility and pricing.

Testimonials: If you submit a testimonial, you provide us permission to use it in any manner ofr any purpose, including but not limited to, marketing and advertising communications without compensation to you. We further reserve the right to post the testimonial or any portion thereof on the Site or in other advertising materials.

6. Tracking and Cookie Management

We use Google Analytics to improve our site experience and to aggregate certain information about our site visitors that is anonymized. We also include social media features/widgets such as Facebook, YouTube, linkedIn and Twitter. You can control how your data is tracked by adjusting your browser settings.   • General Opt-Out: Email info@cover.com to be removed from marketing lists. You will still receive transactional messages related to your specific requests.

8. Data Security and Retention

We employ commercially reasonable physical and technical safeguards to protect your information. However, no electronic transmission is entirely secure, and you use our Services at your own risk. We retain your data for as long as necessary to fulfill our business relationship or comply with legal and tax obligations.

9. Public Content and Third-Party Links

  • Public Forums: Information shared on our blogs or message boards is public and shared at your own risk.
  • Linked Sites: We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external websites linked from our platform.

10. Children's Privacy

14. Right to Non-Discrimination

One quick note: Some of our services (like providing insurance quotes) require specific data to function. If you choose to limit the information shared with our advertising partners, you may see fewer personalized options or be unable to receive direct quotes from certain providers who require that data to generate an offer.

15. Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

Under California law, some of our data-sharing practices—such as sharing information with advertisers to show you relevant products—may be considered a "sale" of personal information. You have the right to opt-out of this at any time.

How to Opt-Out:

16. Shine the Light

Once per calendar year, California residents can request a report detailing the categories of personal information we shared with third parties for their own direct marketing purposes during the previous year.

To request this, visit our Privacy Center and select “Shine the Light Request” from the dropdown menu. Once we receive your request, we will provide the list of categories and the names/addresses of those third parties within 30 days.

17. Minors

Our services are not intended for anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children. We encourage parents and guardians to stay involved in their children's online activities.

  • Under 13: If we discover we have accidentally collected information from a child under 13 without verified parental consent, we will delete that data immediately in compliance with the CCPA and COPPA.

22. SMS/MMS and RCS Messaging Terms

  1. Cover.com Messaging Program. Users may voluntarily opt in to receive recurring SMS, MMS, and RCS messages from Cover Technologies, LLC dba Cover.com regarding insurance products, quote opportunities, reminders, and related Cover.com services.
  2. Optional Consent. Consent to receive SMS, MMS, or RCS messages from Cover.com is optional and is not a condition of obtaining an insurance quote, using Cover.com’s Services, or purchasing any product or service. Users may submit an insurance inquiry without consenting to receive SMS, MMS, or RCS marketing messages from Cover.com.
  3. Opting In. Users opt in by affirmatively selecting the optional messaging consent presented on Cover.com or through another affirmative opt-in mechanism provided by Cover.com. Messaging consent is specific to Cover.com and does not constitute consent to receive marketing messages from participating insurance providers, third parties, or marketing partners.
  4. Opting Out. You can cancel the Cover.com messaging service at any time by replying “STOP” to a message. After you send “STOP,” we will send you a message confirming that you have been unsubscribed. After confirmation, you will no longer receive non-essential SMS, MMS, or RCS marketing messages from Cover.com. If you wish to opt in again, you may sign up through an available Cover.com opt-in process or reply “START” where supported.
  5. No Sharing of Messaging Consent. Cover.com does not sell, transfer, assign, or share a user's SMS, MMS, or RCS messaging consent with third parties or marketing partners for purposes of allowing those parties to send their own marketing messages. Data obtained specifically through the Cover.com messaging program will not be shared with third parties for their marketing purposes.
  6. Help. If you are experiencing issues with the Cover.com messaging program, reply “HELP” for assistance or contact us directly at info@cover.com.
  7. Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
  8. Message Frequency and Charges. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply to messages sent to you from Cover.com and messages you send to Cover.com. If you have questions about your text or data plan, contact your wireless provider.
